In response, the Broncos released statements from the Pat Bowlen Trust and Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis.

The Pat Bowlen Trust’s statement reads:

鈥淭he statements issued by Beth Bowlen Wallace today are contrary to Pat Bowlen鈥檚 long-standing succession plan that he created over many years of careful consideration.

鈥淧at was determined to ensure the Broncos would remain a premier franchise in the National Football League in the event of his absence. He chose to sustain the team鈥檚 success in that eventuality by appointing three non-family trustees to determine whether any of his children had become qualified at some point to step into his shoes.

鈥淧at did not designate Beth as a trustee or appoint her to a leadership position, nor did he instruct the trustees to specifically mentor her. He made it clear that his children were not automatically entitled to a role with the team and that they would have to earn that opportunity through their accomplishments, qualifications and character.

鈥淎s trustees honoring the clear wishes of Pat Anthony Averett Jersey , we have thoroughly evaluated whether Beth is capable of succeeding her father as controlling owner. We have determined that she is not capable or qualified at this time.

鈥淲e have communicated our decision to Beth and her lawyers on multiple occasions. She is also fully informed as to why her employment with the team ended in 2015.

鈥淎lthough Beth has declined our invitations to discuss her qualifications for the last two years, we will continue to proactively engage and meet with any of the Bowlen children who express a desire to earn the right to succeed their father.

The statement from Ellis reads:

David Johnson is back in the fold with the Arizona Cardinals.

The question about whether the dynamic running back would continue his holdout was answered in a hurry when he was among the players returning from injuries to show up for the early portion of training camp.

Johnson, who figures to be the centerpiece of the Arizona offense under new coach Steve Wilks, did not take part in the team’s mandatory minicamp in a contract dispute.

But he reported Sunday and was in Monday’s first workouts. The entire team reports to camp Friday with the first practice Saturday. But he fractured his left wrist in the season opener a year ago and didn’t play again.

A contract agreement seems to be coming but any work on it done now would be without general manager Steve Keim, who is suspended by the team for five weeks for his DUI arrest.

Johnson is scheduled to make $1.9 million this season on the contract he signed as a rookie. That’s far below what a player of his caliber would get on the open market. Le’Veon Bell makes $14.5 million under the franchise tag. Devonta Freeman and LeSean McCoy will make $8 million this year as part of large, long-term deals.
